The research team includes experienced, award-winning scientists, artists, designers, and educators with a unique blend of academic and industry experience.
DR. MARY FLANAGAN Mary Flanagan is an artist, author, and a full professor in the Film and Media Dept. Her work involves using critical play to explore current issues and prevalant themes in emerging technology. She is also the founding director of Hunter College’s Tiltfactor Lab, the first academic video game research lab in New York
KEN PERLIN Ken Perlin is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at New York University researching graphics, animation, and multimedia. He is also the founding director of the Media Research Laboratory, and directed the NYU Center for Advanced Technology from 1994–2004.
JAN PLASS Dr. Plass is an associate professor for educational computation and technology at NYU and founding director of CREATE, the Center for Research and Evaluation of Advanced Technologies in Education. His research explores how cognitive science, computer science, and design can be applied to create effective multimedia and web-based educational tools.
Industry-related consultants on the project include Will Wright, the founder of Maxis Entertainment and creator of The Sims games, and Lindsay Gupton, Executive Studio Director of Know Wonder, maker of the Harry Potter, American Girl, and Magic Schoolbus games. Educators serving as consultants from local schools are involved in the project. Special thanks go to The School of the Future in Manhattan, Trevor Day School, The School (Columbia University).
